In December Colin Monteath (mentor), John Nankervis, and “Theo from Montana” tried to repeat Shackleton’s crossing of South Georgia from King Haakon Bay to Stromness. They were hit by a blizzard and retreated in the whiteout to the northern coast at Possession Bay where, menaced by fur seals, they were picked up by zodiac from a passing trip (theirs). Later, on a lovely day with a bigger group, they walked the final section of Ernie’s route from Fortuna Bay to the abandoned whaling station at Stromness.
