Wellington section members Colin Cook and Ron Stutter, with Stuart Hutson and Michael Buchanan, drove to Rangataua after work on Friday and set their alarm for 4.15am. The following morning, in excellent snow conditions and with a magnificent cloudless windless day they climbed the Mangaehuehu Face on Girdlestone before heading back to Wellington. After summiting, Colin and Michael made a “detour” to complete a Girdlestone-Tahurangi traverse on the way back down.
